Is An ADHD Assessment Right For Me?

If you believe you’re experiencing common ADHD Symptoms, an assessment may be beneficial for you.

ADHD can present in a range of ways and may affect people differently at different stages of life. Common difficulties include persistent problems with attention and concentration, such as becoming easily distracted, struggling to complete tasks, or frequently losing focus.

Some people experience challenges with organisation, time management, and planning, often feeling overwhelmed by everyday demands. Others may notice impulsivity, such as acting or speaking without thinking, difficulty waiting their turn, or making decisions quickly and later regretting them.

Emotional regulation can also be affected, with individuals reporting mood fluctuations, frustration, or a sense of mental restlessness. These experiences are not specific to ADHD and can overlap with other conditions, which is why a careful clinical assessment is important.

About My Assessment

Your 90 Minute ADHD Assessment is led by a GMC Registered Psychiatrist, who is an expert in neurodivergence. Our team of doctors work together to provide you with accurate findings, as part of our multi disciplinary approach.

Where Will My Assessment Take Place?

Your assessment will take place in a safe, private clinical room local to you. Through our NHS booking partners, we secure vacant consultation rooms within NHS settings, such as GP practices and NHS walk-in centres.

We aim to book the closest available facility to your location, meaning our clinician travels to you, rather than the other way around. This allows us to provide face to face assessments in familiar, regulated clinical environments while keeping the process convenient and accessible. Unfortunately, we do not offer Video Consultation assessments.

How Is Adult ADHD Diagnosed?

Adult ADHD is assessed through a structured psychiatric evaluation carried out by a psychiatrist registered with the General Medical Council, in line with UK clinical standards and NICE guidance.

There is no single test for ADHD. An assessment involves a careful review of symptoms, background information and current functioning to understand whether ADHD may be an appropriate explanation for the difficulties described.

An adult ADHD assessment typically involves:

Clinical interview

The psychiatrist will explore current concerns such as attention, organisation, impulsivity and emotional regulation, and how these may affect daily life, work, education or relationships.

Developmental history

As ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition, the assessment considers whether relevant traits or difficulties were present earlier in life, even if they were not recognised or formally identified at the time.

Use of screening questionnaires

Standardised questionnaires may be used as part of the assessment process. These tools do not provide a diagnosis on their own but help inform clinical understanding alongside the interview.

Consideration of functional impact

The assessment looks at whether reported difficulties are ongoing, occur in more than one setting, and have a meaningful impact on everyday functioning.

Consideration of alternative explanations

Other mental health conditions, medical factors or situational influences that could account for similar symptoms are carefully considered as part of the assessment.

A diagnostic conclusion is only reached if the relevant clinical criteria are met. Where ADHD is not identified, the psychiatrist will explain the assessment findings and may discuss alternative considerations or general recommendations for support.

Following the assessment, a written summary is produced outlining the clinical findings and conclusions. With your consent, this information can be shared with your GP.
